Symbol for the Sun

The Sun represents the Father, God (masculine); personal brilliance and dramatic flair; success and achievement.  Position in chart denotes “where you shine”, your major conscious focus in life.

In Vedic astrology the Sun is called Surya, or Ravi; and is considered to be a malefic due to its overly hot nature; malefic but also of a spiritual, truth-seeking nature (sattvic).

By transit or progression, the Sun usually acts as a trigger, releasing stored up energy in outer-planet (and slower moving) configuration.

Sign of its rulership: Leo.  Sign of its exaltation: Aries.

Sign of it detriment: Aquarius (the sign opposite its rulership).  Sign of its fall: Libra (the sign opposite its exaltation.)

Bija mantras: OM SUM ["soom"]; RAM; OM SAVITRE NAMAHA; OM SURYAYA  NAMAHA; OM ADITYAYA NAMAHA; OM RAVAYE NAMAHA

Gemstone: Ruby, right ring finger, or garnet 3-5  carots
