![]() Chart Synbol of the Moon The Moon represents one’s everyday mode and pattern of personality, where one is most of the time. The Moon denotes the self that is moody, and prone to human imperfections. Denotes the Mother (God as Feminine), one’s physical mother, and experience of women in general; it also rules one private domestic world, their home. By nature the Moon is variable and inconstant, just as the ever-changing-ness of the phases of the Moon, or the continual ebb and flow of the tides. Those with the Moon strong in their chart have a preference to live by the water, themselves are variable and inconstant in their nature, and are strongly nurturing and caring of others. People with the Moon strong are also sensitive, sometimes psychic, and “dreamy” in their makeup. In Vedic Astrology, or Jyotish, called Chandra; the Moon rules also the mind, or mind-stuff; less analytical than Mercury, but more reflective, contemplative, and meditative. The Moon rules memories and associated emotions. The Moon is visible in both the night and the day (whereas the Sun is visible only in the day), and therefore can be considered to be stronger than the Sun in the horoscope. The Moon is also considered to be an alternate ascendant and is used as the first house in delineation of transits (according to Jyotish). Transits of the Moon are considered to be both weak and strong. Due to its swiftness of motion, about 12 or 13 deg. per day, its influence is very quick and passing; however, it is strongly used in electional astrology (the astrology of determining the best times to do certain things) because its placement in the chart of the the event or endeavor is very important. The placement and aspects to the Moon in someone’s chart, especially the Vedic chart, is a very good indicator of who and what the person is.
