There is a lot going for Sarah Palin astrologically, but what I see as going for her in a great way does not necessarily have to be "good" things.  She is a woman of substance, having been a city council member, mayor, Alaska state governor, and now Republican Vice Presidential candidate within a very short time frame.  Trying to read Sarah Palin's chart is not so easy. 

The chief feature about her chart is that all of the major points: the Sun, Moon, and ascendant are strongly afflicted by rulership or house position.  Right off the bat this can be a sure indicator of someone who is either, a. limited and frustrated in life, b. working under the burden of misdirected concepts, impulses, and tendencies, or c. just plagued by weirdness  and "in-appropriate-isms". 

Such a person also could harbor a tremendous amount of angst and deal with an assortment of obsessions or compulsive behaviors that color their life.  I would be remiss to say however that such charts are also to be found with people who have the courage and will to "get their hands dirty" doing daunting tasks that must be done; they can be change-makers. 

Palin's Chart

Palin’s Sun as the primary focus of her strength and executive power is debilitated in the sign of Aquarius, conjunct an equally debilitated Mars in that sign in the eighth house.  The eighth house is a very turbulent place for any planet.  Palin's chart (2-11-64, 4:40 pm, Sandpoint, ID, AA data) is at the bottom of this page.

Palin’s Moon as the symbol of her mind, personality and everyday mode of functioning is debilitated in Capricorn in the seventh house.  The Moon is more suited to fluid and sensitive signs such as with its rulership in Cancer, and it is not well-suited to the rigid structure that Capricorn so well exemplifies. 

With this Capricorn/Aquarian emphasis there is a strong executive theme to her life, but possibly also being surrounded by an aura of corruption, questionable ethics, and tremendous power that has the potential for abuse.

Some Problems

With an afflicted Moon and Mercury (as twelfth house ruler) in the seventh house, there could be murky issues regarding marriage and partnerships, and overall reputation.  With Mars as the tenth house ruler in the eighth house (conjunct two other malefics) Palin’s ultimate reputation would tend to be either extremely good or extremely negative; she’s a high-stakes player and some gambles in life she may take may well backfire. 

Palin’s strong religious/philosophical interests and ideology are represented by a well-fortified ninth house, with an exalted Venus and well-dignified Jupiter there.  This ninth house of Palin’s may put a great wind in her sails to take her far in life, and she may have a real wellspring of spiritual power to draw upon.  She may truly believe in the causes she espouses, and this gives her tremendous power alone. 

Returning to Palin’s Sun, it falls in the socially conscious and altruistic sign of Aquarius, so she is more focused on the direction of humanity enlarge as opposed to her own personal gain.  The navamsha position of the Sun in Libra makes her more of a harmonizer/peace-instiller on the scene.  The debilitation however of the Sun in these signs points out possible pitfalls or a concentration of misdirected impulses in their execution. 

Palin's Future Cycles

Palin’s political rise coincided with the start of her current Jupiter maha dasa in 1996, which will be closing out in 2013.  Jupiter is a planet of good fortune, growth and expansion.  Then she switches to a very powerful, albeit potentially problematical, Saturn maha dasa until 2032; and Saturn is more concerned with consolidation of power and attaining status in life usually through a series of trying experiences. 

Some commentators think that Palin is a rising star in the Republican Party, and this may be true.  She could fit well into the “neo-con” style of things: a militant sort of corporate-governmental ideology and she really seems to personally believe in it. 

Without getting into a value judgment myself, Sarah Palin’s type of governance would seem to be oriented around power and control, rather than freedom and the rule of law such as is the case with Ron Paul.  Power itself is a neutral thing, but when it oversteps its bounds then it becomes a problem.  Greater power and control seems to be the modus operandi for governments these days more and more. 

Immediate Cycles

Astrologically, Palin seems to be headed for a somewhat major shift on September 12, 2008, as she moves into a Moon sub-dasa until January 2010.  Due to the debilitated nature of Palin’s Moon, I’m thinking this may cause an eruption of problems and obstacles to deal with, which she probably will plod through with determination. 

Since the Moon falls in Palin's seventh house of partnerships and marriage, it would not be difficult to see problems regarding relationships or alliances that are not all on the up and up; i.e. affairs. 

As the Moon’s dispositor is Saturn in rulership in the eighth house, she may call upon some powerful forces to her aid, but they may exact a heavy price for her as a sort of “Pandora’s box” may be opened.  There could be a few spectacular fireworks going on during this time, including her own “troopergate” and other scandals.  She may come out more empowered than ever though. 

It would be natural to assume that in 2012 she will be making her own run for President, when she moves into her Saturn maha dasa, and it looks like she could very well become a key power-player.  It’s pretty amazing though how she has made such great leaps in her professional career, rising from obscurity just like a Jimmy Carter, a Bill Clinton (and now a Barak Obama).  Things like that don’t happen by themselves, it is obvious she has been put on the fast track.  Sarah Palin certainly would seem to be a “favored one”; favored by whom though is the important question that should be on the minds of all. 

Problems from Neptune

Transiting Neptune also will be moving right over Palin's Sun (so burdened natally) for the next few years.  She may feel her ego being boosted up, but by illusory forces that could cause a huge let down.  There are unanswered questions in her life and her whole nomination process is most unusual, the transit of Neptune may just lighting up something which really there is not much to; i.e. Palin may be a flash in the pan. 

However it must be asked; with all the current political players on the stage and if you look at their real lives with any amount of scrutiny; who isn't a vacuous figure to make us feel good, propped up by the real movers and shakers of life from the corporate/financial world?
