2007 moves into 2008.  There is a great debate among motivational coaches about whether we should or should not make resolutions, this way we don’t set ourselves up for disappointment.  Of course we like to set ourselves up, because we have an internal program running to sabotage ourselves.  We claim we want change, but I think sometimes we really want is attention and pity from others is a good way to get it.  This is because it is far easier to be a part of the crowd where failure, sorrow, and disappointment are the norm; through these deceitful tendencies all tend to reinforce and validate each other.  Time is divided up into compartments, notches on a ruler, or beads on a rosary.  Each little notch or bead has a name: 1999, 2000, 2001, and so forth.  But the one that is really important is the one called NOW.  The past, the future have no meaning.  What you were, what you will be all are irrelevant as compared to what you accept yourself to be RIGHT NOW.

The future as a distant hope can be just as evil as the regretful past.  They are a separation from the desired goal; it is like a decree of the mind that the thing we want will not be acquired now.  It is just as easy though to think otherwise: the thinker, the thought, and the object of the thought can be the same thing. 

But what do I mean by that?

This is very metaphysical and not clear solely from the physical level, but the mind is the actual lever of change in the universe; and you have that mind.  That mind is better computer than any Mac or PC: it thinks something....and it is so!  This mind you have was designed by quite an Amazing Inventor; it has the best hard drive, the best processor and the most amazing input/output interface!

So I am telling you to make your resolutions, paint the picture of life as you think it should be.  Then dare to believe it is a reality now.  You are living in a flux state between two universes: that of a human being subject to the laws of decay and death, and that of god-like power and brilliance; and the finer part of you is moving towards the latter.  Sometimes it is a matter of conscious will power as to where you put your attention on (that’s the “work” part.) 

Metaphysics also tells us that time and space are illusions, constructs of the mind that we need to navigate through cosmos.  Sadness is also an illusion, and an unnecessarily burdensome one.  So when we fail, that is fall back into deeply illusory states of mind, the old universe of pain and suffering that has had such a hold over us in the past; does it really happen?  Was it just a bad dream, a vapor on a glass that fades away? 

You can make your resolutions/goals/objectives for 2008; but inevitably you will fail.  The glittering facade of your human perfection gets shattered, but just tell yourself it is irrelevant.  Pick yourself up and refocus on your matrix for your universe. Perfection is not in a perfectly preserved record of behavior, but it is a quality of striving and attitude that propels you onto your goal. 

It may be fashionable to get pity, but it is not profitable.  Many times happiness requires that you separate yourself out of previously limiting situations or circles of friends.  Ultimately happiness is not found in friends or in any exterior thing; it is found within after the distractions have been given up. 

There is a perpetual war going on in the human psyche between the forces of defeatism and sorrow and that of success and happiness; it is a war of attrition, he who perseveres wins.  There are little skirmishes that go on daily, the battles may go either way, but the war will be won by the side that wins first in their mind and does not give up. 

The "battle" itself is an illusion.  Maybe we can say that the tao of battle is that he who does not fight wins the fight.  As 2008 is now upon us, we may look a little older, but as I think the more years affixed to my name the less and less they have meaning.
